As the residential epoxy flooring market saturates with contractors; sometimes small, or big, from weekends, painters or other trades, a lot of them even using the same materials from the same place, some other times from big-box retailers. It gets harder to differentiate which one is really offering a professional and long-lasting solution, and like everything else all that matter is the attention to the details; the process/procedures of installation are what makes the difference; proper tools and training is what allows an adequate, seamless and durable epoxy coating application, so don’t get confused with a low or high price quote, take a look at their process!
The Process
GRINDING & PREP WORK
01
Grinding the concrete is actually the most important part of the process, the main purpose is to create a profile on the substrate that would allow the resins to get deeper into the concrete providing a strong bond. Power wash, acid wash, sanding or scrubbing are just simply not going to get the profile, it actually requires a CSP-3 level, it means that the only way to get it is by mechanical grinding, with the right tools and vacuum attachments, most of the time is a simple process, also helps to remove contaminants and to clean the surface. The number one problem associated to epoxy peeling is a poor prep work
02
PATCHING & REPAIR
Repair and reinforcement of miscellaneous imperfections. Open, clean, reinforce and fill with a special crack repair mix. Stem walls can also get repair work for a seamless finish.
03
BASE COAT EPOXY PRIMER
A 3-times stronger than ordinary epoxy or polyaspartic and 8 lbs of MVE pressure epoxy primer to ensure a strong bonding to the concrete to prevent delamination and chipping.
